Kiwanis Club of Barbados South in 2010 at the invitation of his brother, Distinguished President Horace Burton. He visited the club on a few occasions after that, but it was not until 2014 that he made the decision to become a member and was inducted on August 19, 2014.

Almost immediately after joining he got involved in the activities of the club,. He undertook the task of redesigning and relaunching the club’s website and continues as the webmaster. Additionally, he has been involved in several other projects. Since joining the Kiwanis Club of Barbados South he has served on several committees, was a Director from 2015 to 2017 and the Bulletin Editor since 2015. The bulletin, South Star, won the Ralph Taylor Memorial Award for Best Club Newsletter 2016-2017. He received awards for his service to the club for 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 and was Kiwanian of the Year 2016-2017.

Selvin spent forty-one years in the field of meteorology before retiring. He joined the Barbados Meteorological Service in 1965 and moved on to the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology in 1986 where he was involved in the training and research programmes. He was also a lecturer in meteorology at the University of the West Indies. He was head of the Data Services department at the Institute when he retired . Selvin holds a BSc (First Class Honours) degree in Mathematics and Meteorology from the University of the West Indies, an MS degree in Meteorology from the Pennsylvania State University and a Diploma in Public Administration from the University of the West Indies.

Selvin has been a member of the St. Bartholomew Anglican Church for the past sixty years. He has served on the Parochial Church Council and as Synod Representative. He is a member of the altar servers and is currently a Eucharistic Minister.

He has been married to Virginia for forty-seven years and they have two children–a daughter and a son-and one grandson. Selvin enjoys a good game of bridge, but only gets to play computer bridge now. He enjoys travelling, listening to music and reading. He spends a fair amount of time on the computer as well.

  • INCREASE the net membership by two (2) persons
  • STRENGTHEN the Service Leadership Programme by fostering a closer relationship with the SLP clubs and reinforcing our partnership through support of their activities
  • ESTABLISH a mentorship programme to improve member satisfaction, increase member retention and prepare members for leadership positions in the club.
  • IMPROVE the visibility of the club through community interaction, community projects and social media.
